I've stopped watching TV news entirely because I'd rather scan headlines on the NY Times website than hear some cheesedick talk about some bird that got caught in the power lines by Coney Island or how the snowfall this year is averaging higher than last year's. On the other side of the coin, I'm watching what is happening to these three guys at Duke and it's reminding me of all the shit that we endured with the Tawana Brawley mess. And more importantly, like I said, it makes me wonder about me being one o' those guys. It's an eye-opener. But I 'ppreciate the props :)

Kaia: I am hoping for a positive outcome, for all four. The more I think about it, the more this sh...Lisa:

The more I think about it, the more this shitbird, Nifong, reminds me of Al Sharpton. Obviously each's goals are different, but while Sharpton lost all credibility when he backed Tawana Brawley's false claims and then accused some police and government officials of being racists and/or rapists, Nifong is a completely different animal. I can understand he believed this woman's story, even though he never actually interviewed her. And I can believe he assumed these guys were indeed guilty, especially based on the disciplinary record of the Duke lacrosse team. However, once that DNA evidence came back showing three men -- none of whom were Duke lacrosse players -- was present on the accuser's underwear, Nifong made a crucial mistake. Rather than admit that maybe there was more (or less) to her story and be honest with the public and the court, he decided not only to hide that evidence but instead to indict these three guys. If these were simply three empty-headed attendees of a local community college, that strategy might have worked. However, considering these are three out-of-state Duke students whose parents managed to secure a prime-time spot on 60 Minutes and face-time with the North Carolina State Bar Association, it seems to me that Nifong got way too overzealous, opted not to think about what he was doing, and plodded ahead. So instead of him easily winning re-election, he's likely to be disbarred and sued for making inflammatory statements (calling three guys he "knew" to be innocent hooligans, damage to their future earning potential, etc.) and is likely going to go from public hero to public zero.

What amazes me is that he pressed on even when the evidence proved his theory, and his faith in this dimwit, was completely wrong.

I really don't know what -- or if -- he was thinking, but seeing this kind of thing is like a bad car accident, with, unfortunately, similar results. Nothing good will come of this, aside from the dismissal of an asshole prosecutor who should have known better.Boogiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11636861960548704495noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9133409.post-21961400703031342842007-01-26T08:43:00.000-05:002007-01-26T08:43:00.000-05:00I'm not a fan of politicians using the law for the...I'm not a fan of politicians using the law for their own personal agendas.

Shame on them.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9133409.post-29261914835226105412007-01-26T07:17:00.000-05:002007-01-26T07:17:00.000-05:00LOL...I've been so preoccupied with work I never s...LOL...I've been so preoccupied with work I never saw the tag-and-release. Once the lab advised him -- before publishing their report -- that there were three mens' DNA found in her underwear, but none from any of the lacrosse players -- Nifong not only hid that from the Duke players' defense lawyers, he had the lab omit that from their report and subsequently lied in court by saying there he knew of no evidence that would help the defense. And the bitch, as I mentioned, was that even though the DNA basically showed that none of the three players were guilty based on the DNA evidence, he went ahead -- a week after being advised their DNA was nowhere to be found -- and indicted them anyway.

It's just a matter of time before Nifong is disbarred.

As for Sharpton, Tawana Brawley still claims to this day she was telling the truth, but there's no evidence whatsoever corroborating her story in any way, shape or form. As far as I know, there was no DNA evidence ever tested in connection with her case; whether that's because the relevant evidence was subsequently destroyed, or whether there was no DNA found on the bag or her body that confirmed her story, or whether it was, as Sharpton suggested, a big-time police cover-up, we'll never know. I'd personally think she made up the entire story, but again, no one knows for sure.Boogiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11636861960548704495noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9133409.post-35770958495564417962007-01-25T22:24:00.000-05:002007-01-25T22:24:00.000-05:00wow - so that whole dna thing is post 1987?wow - so that whole dna thing is post 1987?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
